Easy To Do Nail Designs Without Tools
Basic Nail Care Tools
Nail care tools can be quite confusing at the best of times! We all know the basic nail cutter that we've been using from an extremely tiny age, but, apart from that, we don't quite know our nail care tools all that well! At some point in time you were probably gifted or bought a nail care tools set yourself, and ever since then, it has been seated at the back of your dressing table drawer, gathering dust!
It's time to bring that manicure set out and see the wonders that it can actually do!
Nail Care Tools
1. Nail Cutters
We all know what this is used for. Whether you call it a nail cutter, a nail clipper or 'that nail thing' it still has only one sole purpose – to cut those nails of yours! The best part about these basic nail care tools is that it comes in quite a few sizes, making it easier for you to handle, according to your convenience!

2. Nail File
While we all know what this is used for, not many of us actually use it because "I just cannot file my nails into any acceptable shape!" Well, it's time to test and try out your nail file. Simply think of it as a carving tool, and shave your nail down into the required shape.
Also, remember that it is completely acceptable if you don't get the desired shape on your first attempt or even tenth attempt! Practice makes you perfect at the end of the day!
3. Cuticle Pusher
Whether you have a basic cuticle pusher or an advanced "2-sides" cuticle pusher, these nail care tools are used for one purpose – to push the cuticles of your nails back! I recommend doing this only after softening the skin on your cuticles using cuticle oil or petroleum jelly.
If you have the '2-sides" cuticle pusher, then use the blunt side to push the cuticle back and the sharp side to gently scrape off any excess skin.

4. Cuticle Trimmer
The cuticle trimmer is easier to use that a nipper and scissors but, it does not clean the cuticles as well as the other nail care tools would. This little tool is used by placing the center of the 'v' against the corner of the cuticle and placing a little pressure while marking the outline of your cuticle. This ensures that any extra skin is removed.
5. Cuticle Nipper
The cuticle nipper is also an easy tool to handle but, is much more effective at getting those little hard-to-remove cuticle skin pieces out. The trick with the cuticle nipper is to not pull at the skin as this might rip your skin if it hasn't cut through properly. Instead, hold the skin in between the two blades and squeeze the handles together. Now release the handles and then move the nipper from its place.
6. Cuticle Scissors
The cuticle scissors are probably best to use when you have become more advanced with your other nail care tools. While this tool is the most effective at removing the excess skin on the cuticle effectively, it can be quite tricky using this method.
As the scissors are slightly bent, use that bend as a guideline, simply cut the skin on the cuticle off, after using the cuticle pusher to release the excess skin.

7. Nail Buffer
Buffing the nails is very important for that extra shine and a clear cleaned look. Quite often you may find ridges on your nails, making them look dull and unhealthy. For this purpose, we require a nail buffer.
Always begin with the roughest side and then proceed to the smoothest. Most nail buffers come with the steps written on them, making it easier to follow. The basic movement of the nail buffer is moving it side to side over your nails. Use gentle motions with the first three steps and then go-to-town with the last step which is the polishing!
8. Nail Brush
The nail brush is often used in saloons but is quite handy even at home as it is used to remove any excess from the nails after filing and removing the cuticles. It is handy as it can even get into the tiny nooks and crannies of your nails!
